New European legislation on the bumper to improve road safety

Kraker has developed a new bumper

A new European law requires that the rear bumper of the trailer be mounted at a lower level. The structure also needs to be reinforced. The EU aims thereby to reduce the number of road fatalities and improve road safety.
Kraker has developed a new bumper, a new cantilever and a stronger chassis at the rear to meet the new requirements.

Research has shown that 60% of rear-end collisions between a truck and a passenger car are fatal. The EU wants to reduce the number of road accident victims and has set out the requirements for the bumper in a new law. Kraker has developed a new bumper, a new cantilever and a stronger chassis at the rear to meet the new requirements. Kraker based these amendments on Regulation 58, series of amendments 03, of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The new law takes effect on 1 September 2021.

The new bumper provides more protection in the event of rear-end collisions and thereby contributes to greater road safety.

Kraker has made the following changes:

- the maximum ground clearance becomes 450 mm instead of 550 mm
- the overhang (distance from the rear end of the bumper to the rear end of the trailer) becomes a maximum of 200 mm instead of 340 mm
- the structure of the bumper and chassis is modified to absorb greater impact.
